Do you deliver or do I have to collect my cake?
Prices for wedding cakes (except budget wedding cakes) include delivery and set up at your wedding venue within a 10 mile radius of LS10. Mileage over 10 miles chargeable at £1 per mile. If you wish to collect your wedding cake, please deduct £10 from the total price quoted. Budget wedding cakes to be collected from my home address in LS10. Budget cakes can be delivered for an extra £10 within a 10 mile radius, (extra mileage chargeable at £1 per mile). All other celebration cakes to be collected but can be delivered locally if necessary, please ask for details.
Do I have to have fruit cake for my wedding cake?
Fruit cake has traditionally been used for wedding cakes, and if you wish to save your top tier for your anniversary or as a christening cake, fruit cake should be used as it will last a long time. Otherwise I can supply any combination of cake types that suits you, whether all fruit, all sponge, or a mixture of both. Sponge cakes include the following flavours, madeira, chocolate and lemon. Other flavours are available but may incur higher costs.
How long will my cake last??
Fruit cakes will keep for months or even years. All sponge cakes are decorated as close to your event date as possible to ensure maximum freshness. The sponge cake and chocolate cake recipes used are all for moist cakes but should ideally be eaten within a week.
I am allergic to nuts, can I still have a cake?
If you or any of your guests have a nut allergy, I can omit nuts from all fruit cake recipes and can use an extra layer of sugar paste instead of marzipan. However I must advise you that the cakes will be made in a kitchen using nuts or nut products.
I have celiac disease, can I still have a cake?
I can adapt all of my cake recipes to be gluten-free by using gluten free flour and baking powder. However, I must advise you that the cakes will be made in a kitchen using gluten products.
I want to use my cake as a dessert, what do you suggest??
All of the sponge cake recipes I use are for tasty moist cakes, and I know that some of my wedding cakes have been used as a dessert in the past. My chocolate cakes are made with a richer cake recipe and are perfect to double up as a dessert.
How much notice do you need for a cake order??
For wedding cakes ideally at least 6 months, longer if possible. For other celebration cakes, 2 months notice or more is ideal for me, but please contact me at any time and I will try to accommodate you! For all cake types, if you can at least tell me the size and type of cake you want, finer details can be discussed at a later date.
Can I have a chocolate wedding cake on a hot summer's day?
I would suggest that is probably not the best idea to have a chocolate cake on a very hot day, however, if your venue is air conditioned and the cake can be kept relatively cool, it is unlikely to melt. In very hot conditions the chocolate may start to go soft.
I've got my own idea for a cake, can you help??
Yes!!! Please contact me and let me know your ideas, I will do my best to help you.
I would like to order a plain wedding cake, and decorate it myself with flowers from my florist, can you help me?
Yes! See photos in the tiered wedding cake gallery for examples. Use the price table to calculate your price dependant on the number of tiers required, then deduct £25 if you want a plain cake with flowers to be supplied by you.
How do I make payment to you?
For wedding cakes I require a non refundable deposit of £100 per order (50% for budget cakes). The balance to be paid 2 weeks before the wedding date. For other celebration cakes I require a non refundable deposit of £15 per cake. The balance to be paid on receipt of the cake. Payment by cash or cheque only, made payable to "The Perfect Cake Company"
Do you have a shop? Can I visit you?
No, the perfect cake company is a home based company. I work alone making cakes whilst my children are in school and nursery. If you would like to meet me for a consultation about your cake order, please contact me to arrange a date and time.
How long have you been making wedding cakes?
I have been making cakes on and off for 18 years. My education lead me to a degree in German and Management Studies, but since having my second child I decided to turn my hobby into a business. I have completed my Food Hygiene Certificate and am fully registered with Environmental Health.
What happens when we have decided on our cake and are ready to book?
Birthday and other celebration cakes do not generally require a consultation, but for wedding cakes a short meeting can be arranged to discuss all details. Please bring with you any fabric swatches, colours or photographs you feel may be appropriate.
